San Cristobal has a new airport which provides modern facilities for travelers and the advantage of being a mere 5 minutes from the town center. The execution of this work was provided by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), with an investment of approximately $7.4 million USD as part of a macro project of national airports.
The project includes the remodeling and expansion of the terminal building 3,842 m², a new technical block of 300 m², an access road to the airport hangar remodeling fire service 335 m², as well as parking and external works.
In addition, areas for baggage control, flight information, network access control, public announcements, CCTV, wireless network systems, fire and air conditioning, technical blocks and reinforced concrete deck were improved polycarbonate, among other modern amenities to ensure the safety of flights, and connectivity of visitors and residents of the Galapagos Islands.
San Cristobal’s airport is one of two airports in the Galapagos Archipelago that receives tourists and residents (an average of 400 people a day).
